The Little Chatterbox was founded in 2009 by Susan Martinez Peacock and Maria Castro Sansone. Susan and Maria were both raised in Tampa and attended the Academy of the Holy Names High School in South Tampa.
Susan went on to attend Florida State University, where she majored in Communicative Disorders. After graduating from FSU, she attended the University of Tennessee, where she received a Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology. After graduation, she worked with children 3 through10 years of age in the school systems in Atlanta and later in Tampa. Susan also provided speech and language therapy to critical care patients of New Hanover Health Network in Wilmington, North Carolina before moving back home to Tampa in 2004. She currently lives in South Tampa with her husband, Tom and two young daughters, Lola and Marina.
Maria, a native Spanish-speaker, went to the University of Alabama, where she majored in Communicative Disorders and then on to the University of South Florida, where she received a Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology. After graduation, Maria was recruited to New York City to work with bilingual children. For over 14 years, Maria has worked with bilingual speech, language and developmentally delayed children from birth through 10 years of age in the New York area. She has a private practice specializing in bilingual speech and language stimulation parent-child groups for the New York Early Intervention Program. She and her husband, John currently live in New York with their three young children, Chloe, Stela and Jac who they are raising bilingually. Even their Yorkshire Terrier, Magnum, is bilingual.
As mothers of small children, speech-language pathologists and being of Spanish descent, we were interested in providing an opportunity for our children to become bilingual. In researching options for Susan's children in the Tampa Bay area, it became apparent that those options were very limited. Maria's children had been enrolled in the Language Workshop for Children classes in New York and she was extremely impressed by the program and especially by how much her children loved it. The result of this experience was the formation of The Little Chatterbox. We decided to partner with François Thibaut and his renowned Language Workshop For Children due to the quality of the program and our common mission of providing children with a fun and engaging play-based method to become bi-/multi-lingual. The Language Workshop For Children is an award-winning, internationally-recognized program that has been successfully teaching foreign languages to babies, toddlers and children for over 36 years.
We have traveled extensively around the world and believe these experiences have created a passion for languages and an appreciation for different cultures that we want to instill in our own children. We are committed to raising our children bi-/multi-lingually and exposing them to diverse cultural experiences. We believe that this will not only engage both sides of their brain in learning during the critical period of brain development but will also encourage a cultural sensitivity and knowledge necessary to be well-adapted and successful in the global environment in which we live. We are enthusiastic about The Little Chatterbox, passionate about this mission and excited to provide this opportunity to your children as well.
